Annemiek de Jager graduated in 1993 from the Dutch art institute AKI-Artez, where she obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts. She started out as a sculptor, journeyed to photography and finally found her way to painting. This turned out to be her one, true passion. 

Painting is her happy-pill. It allows her to focus on the good things in life, analyze the bad things and find the beauty in the lessons learned. Painting is her way of storytelling as much as it is her therapy: a tether to kinship, inter-connection and positivity. De Jager’s work transforms and visualizes her daily and not so daily life events into fantastical stories in order to capture her thoughts, emotions, and the beauty of nature. Her colorful pieces often feel like reading a fairy tale. She likes to create series of paintings with distinct themes that are current at the time. 

Today, de Jager works and lives in Amsterdam in a nice apartment with a garden and a small painting studio, in the company of her two sweet dogs. During an exchange program in 1991, she lived in San Francisco where she lost her heart to Californian nature, weather and people. Recently, this all came back to her when her daughter moved to California. It is her favorite place to visit and a true inspiration for her paintings as well.
